Need, Formation and Objectives

Introduction

The Covenant Social Service is the outcome of discussion held in 1999 among the
Community leaders, who are committed to help the society and the nation building.
Why there is a need of the Covenant Social Service? The primary discussion
focused upon following points;
1. Covenant Social Service is needed for Community Development Projects.
2. CSS should address the disaster related relief and rehabilitation.
3. CSS should focus on capacity building, training, Community Based Organization.
4. CSS should develop its competency on developing projects and programmes.
Based on primary discussion a working group of Community leaders was formed to
provide conceptual framework to the Covenant Social Service.

4. Mr. Philip Nadvi
Several working group meetings were held between 1999 to 2002 to develop the
conceptual framework along with the process of writing of its MOA, By-Laws,
structure, policies and operational procedures.

The Covenant Social Service was registered in 2004 with the Charity Commissioner for following objectives.

Objectives of CSS:

  1. To serve the people irrespective of colour, caste and creed through literacy, medical, educational and welfare work.
  1. The CSS envisages a society where people participate for their own empowerment and development towards a transformed life.
  2. The CSS facilitates people’s empowerment from oppressed context to a holistic development.
  3. The CSS visualizes a society where peace, justice, and equality prevails and where all citizens irrespective of caste, creed, language and religion live in peace and communal harmony.
  4. The CSS envisages a society where poor and the marginalized have equal opportunity in the development process, which is value based and sustainable and provides an appropriate environment to develop their fullest potential.

EDUCATION

The CSS has developed competency in providing formal and non-formal education.

DISASTER RELIEF

CSS is working among the vulnerable groups irrespective of caste, creed or religion.          

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The CSS together with the stakeholders came up with issues which affects the right holders.

WATERSHED MANAGEMENT

The target group are marginal farmers. The CSS is working to promote water conservation.

CSW PROJECT

It is more of helping these women to take a decision to live a better and independent life.

EMPOWERING WOMEN

Empowering and strengthening women in the civil society organizations and addressing the poverty.

Area Of Involvement

The Covenant Social Service (CSS)is bringing integrated and holistic development to the marginalized people of society in India. The CSS is committed to bring transformation in the life of the poor and marginalized people.

The main focus groups, who are helped by CSS, are children, women, adolescent girls, young adults Dalits and Tribal. The main issues addressed are environmental, education, health & hygiene, economic empowerment and capacity building

The CSS focus is also on disaster relief and disaster mitigation. The CSS has been involved in disaster relief and rehabilitation in 14 states of India, in which earth quake, cyclone, flood, tsunami and fire affected people have been helped.
