Laxmibai who is 48 years, got married at a young age to an old man. She stays in Sanjeevnagar slums in Gulbarga District. Her husband cannot work as he is old now. Laxmibai has five children who are very young. The burden of the house is on her shoulders.

Chandrakala who is 37 years, was born in a poor farmer family. Her parents had to look after 3 children. It was very difficult to give them education & take care of their basic needs. Though Chandrakala was a clever & bright student she had to stop her education after she completed 7th standard. Her parents got her married to a poor laborer. Now she stays in Bhambewadi village in Sholapur. She worked with her husband in the fields but at the same time she was very enthusiastic & managed to attend women’s groups.

Mrs. Usha Devi is a 33 years old woman, who used to work as a farm labour along with her husband. She stays in Sharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Her family is poor and it was very difficult for them to even feed their children and themselves. As this is not enough, Usha Devi had a brain disease.
Nagaveni Thogari - A Young Woman Tailoring Her Life
Miss Nagaveni Thogari is a 20 year old woman who studied up to the 3rd standard and then had to drop out. She has four younger sisters and one younger brother. They don’t have any land or property but have twenty goats. The children are shepherds and must look after the goats. Her father is a drunk, and her mother has to work on other people’s farms to support the family. Nagaveni not only had to help take care of her younger sisters and brother at home but also has had to work in the fields since she was 10 years old.
Muthamma - Sewing Her Life Back Together
On June 8, 2008, a tailoring center began in the village of Thondkal with 20 students. Muthamma w/o Siddanna Doddamani was one of the women in the class. She was a poor widower who was living with her elderly mother-in-law and 12 year old daughter. Although they had one acre of land, they were not able to take care of it because there was no one to do it. In order to support her family, she had to work as a daily wage labourer on other people’s farms.
