The Husbys' Visit – November 2009
Two representatives from the Evangelical Covenant Church in America, David and Ronna Husby, came to visit the work CSS has been doing in Gujarat and Mumbai. David is the new director of Covenant World Relief (CWR) and Ronna is the Asia coordinator for Covenant World Mission (CWM). While in Gujarat, they visited some of the tribal villages where most of the men and women work as agricultural day laborers and typically earn less than RS 100 a day. Covenant World Relief has partnered with CSS over the last three years to help the tribal people in this region.
Karnataka Flood Intervention – October 2009
In October 2009, the floods in Karnataka affected about 5 million people. More than 250 lives were lost and 828 villages were destroyed or badly damaged. Over 250,000 houses were destroyed and 48,000 hectares of crops were damaged.
Bihar Flood Intervention – July 2009
In July 2009, the floods in Bihar affected approximately 400,000 people. Over 200 villages were under water and over 30,000 people had to be taken to safer places and became homeless. Humanitarian assistance teams often had to go through water in order to get to target villages which made it difficult for relief materials to be transported.
