The number of deaths in Bihar floods today rose to 222 even as all major rivers, except Punpun and Kosi, were flowing below danger mark.
The flood situation in Bihar appears to be improving as the Ganga waters receded below danger marks for the first time in the past two weeks but heavy rains led to water-logging on railways tracks in Howrah and Sealdah divisions in West Bengal affecting train services.
With 19 more deaths, the number of lives lost in the Bihar floods today touched 198, even as the water levels of swollen Ganga With six more deaths reported in Bihar today, the flood toll in the state this monsoon rose to 165.
The number of deaths in Bihar floods rose to 159 with three more deaths being reported more, while the situation in Uttar Pradesh improved due to receding river waters even as some parts of northern India received rains. The overall flood situation in Bihar on Sunday showed signs of improvement with river Ganga and its tributaries receding and relief operations continuing, officials said.
With reports of eight fresh deaths on Thursday, the total toll in Bihar flood increased to 135, with Bhojpur district accounting for 12 deaths in the second round of floods due to the swollen Ganga. As Bihar reels under massive flood situation mainly due to swollen River Ganga, 29.71 lakh people being affected by the deluge in 24 districts of the state.
